Principal investigator
Cham strongly believes that his position is meant to serve his team members as a mentor (if you doubt this, please remind him of this statement). Outside of the laboratory, he enjoys spending time with his wife, daughter, and dog, including playing tennis and traveling (especially exploring local foods!). In the photo, he is seen enjoying the beautiful sunshine and pristine water at Destin Beach, FL.

Serenity Derousie (s.derousie@ufl.edu) is an undergraduate Environmental Engineering student. She aspires to study water treatment techniques to provide clean, affordable water for impoverished areas of the world. In her free time Serenity takes part in activities with my Church and Cru (Christian organization on Campus), and she enjoys physical activities (such as hiking, swimming, sports, and mechanical work).
Shota Konno (konnoshota@ufl.edu) is pursuing a Bachelor’s in Environmental Engineering with a minor in Sustainability Studies. He is passionate about protecting both people and the environment from pollutants, which has motivated his interest in wastewater process. Shota aims to better undestand the role of microbes in treatment systems to enhance quality of life. Outside the lab, he enjoys rock climbing, playing intramural sports, film photography, listening to music, and living sustainably—recently, he learned how to sew and repair old clothes.
Anabelle (aballate@ufl.edu) is an undergraduate student in Biology on the pre-professional track. She is pursuing a minor in Pathogenisis and hopes to attend medical school post grad. At UF she is involved in the College for Liberal Arts and Sciences student council and the honor society Alpha Epsilon Delta. She is a NICU volunteer at HCA hospital. In her free time she enjoys reading, spending time with friends and trying new restaurants and coffee shops.
Matthew Hong (hongm@ufl.edu) is an undergraduate biology student on the pre-dental track. He hopes to one day own his own practice and give quality dental care to people who may not be able to access or afford it. He also works as a part time dental assistant. On his free time, he enjoys working out, play a variety of sports like volleyball, and swimming, and hanging out with friends.
